Grand Rapids Comic Con

Well, I suppose I should call this a quick recap. But I had a blast at GRCC this past weekend. I got to meet so many wonderful people and hang out with the lovely Susan Dennard, whose upcoming book Truthwitch is one you’re going to want to check out.

My presentation on Worldbuilding started off a little rough due to some technical difficulties but went well once we got going. Thanks so much to everyone who attended. As promised, here is the presentation in outline form for your convenience: worldbuilding.

Unfortunately, I didn’t take that many pictures, but here are a couple. Also, you might have noticed my website has been redesigned (hope you like it). I plan to do a formal reveal soon that’s going to include a giveaway. So be sure to come back!

Happy writing!

News and Events!

Firstly, and super-duper awesomely, The Nightmare Affair has been nominated for the YALSA Teens’ Top Teen . I’m pretty sure this a big deal, and some of the other nominees are oh-my-gosh amazing. Anyway, if you’re a teen, you can vote for the book. There’s also a giveaway. More details here. Also, if you vote for me, there might be unicorns and rainbows in your future from yours truly.

Secondly, I’ve got two events coming up in a few days. I’ll be doing a chat and signing with Erica O’Rourke and Stacey Kade at Read Between the Lines in Woodstock, IL on Thursday April 24 at 7:00.

After that, I’ll be spending the weekend hanging out at the Chicago Spring Fling Writers Conference. I’ve participating in a panel on Friday, as well as the Librarian Tea, and on Saturday, I’ll be signing books. Hope I get to meet some of you.

Upcoming Events

Anybody want to come hang out with me? Pick my brains about writing or publishing? Well, I’m happy to say there are going to be lots of chances over the next couple of weeks. I’m going to update my Events page with all the information below, but in the meantime, here’s a summary of what’s coming.

Jan 22, 7:00: Twitter Party

I have never done a Twitter party before, but I’m excited about it. Full details here. Come and chat me with please. I promise to be a fountain of information and maybe fun. Maybe.

Feb 6, 8:00: Shindig Event – New Leaf Literary & Media Author Talk

If you don’t know what Shindig is, just trust me when I say it’s awesome and it’s easy. All you need is a computer with an internet connection and preferring some kind of camera/speaker. Signing up is easy and free. My fellow author Jennifer Rush and I will be online and ready to chat. You’ll get to see our faces and hear us talk in real life. Hope you can make. Details here.

Mar 11 – Mar 17: The Three Nightmares You Can’t Resist Tour

That’s right, I’m going on a group tour with Kristen Simmons and Jenna Black! How cool is that? Very cool. We’ve got stops in Dayton, Ohio, Cincinnati, Lexington, Louisville, and Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The official announcement is here. I’ll post additional details, such as times and anything extra as I get them.

April 5: Wayne College Writers Workshop at Akron, Ohio

I just got invited to this event, and I couldn’t be more excited. I’m doing a workshop on writing suspense (fancy title to come). And I’m also the guest speaker, apparently. Totally weird and surprising, but cool. Find details here.

April 25 – 26: 2014 Spring Fling Writers Conference, Chicago

I’ll be doing a part of the AMA (Ask Me Anything) YA Panel with my fellow authors Erica Rourke and Lori M. Lee. My super-fab agent, Suzie Townsend, will be moderating. In addition, I’ll be doing some signings. Details here.

And there you have it. I really hope to see and talk to some of you soon. Seriously, give the Shindig event a try. It’s a create way to get to chat with both authors and fellow readers!

Buckeye Book Fair 2013!

First off, I’ve got to apologize for me overall absence from the Internet of late. I’ve got a dozen excuses for this, but none that really matter other than the obvious one — deadlines! Yes, I’m under a totally panic-inducing deadline to finish Avalon 2, aka the “Killer Book,” thusly named because writing it might actually result in my death. Kidding. It’s just been a challenge, but nothing worth doing is easy, right? hehe.

Anyway, I wanted to write up a big post about New York Comic Con, but there’s no time. Instead, I posted a bunch of pictures down and dirty like over on Facebook. You can find them here. But the short of it is I had a blast in NYC and I can’t wait to visit again some day. I met a ton of new people and had an awesome time.

And now to the my main point. I’ll going to be participating at the Buckeye Book Fair 2013, this weekend in Wooster, Ohio! I’ve heard this is an awesome event and there are a TON of young adult writers going to be there, including Rae Carson and Cinda Williams Chima. Anyway, if you live anywhere around the Wooster area, I really hope you’ll come out and see us.

Cheers!

New York Comic Con Schedule

I can hardly believe that in two days I’ll be on my way to NYC for Comic Con!!!! Seriously, those exclamation points just aren’t expressing my enthusiasm loudly enough. But I am. Enthused. Ecstatic. It’s going to rock.

I know that there will be plenty of popular fandoms going around, and you can click here to see the favorite comic characters by US state which will inevitably be very well represented in costume, but I’m equally excited to see all the other fandoms too!

All of my events take place on Sunday. Here’s the breakdown:

  • 12:00 pm: Signing The Nightmare Dilemma* arcs at the Tor Booth (2223)
  • 1:15 pm: Panel – “We have done the impossible, and that makes us might”: A Discussion of heroes and heroines in science fiction. The other authors are Kass Morgan, Cristin Terrill, Phoebe North, Robinson Wells, and Adam Sternbergh. Moderated by Ali T. Kokmen
  • 2:30: Signing Avalon arcs (Table 21)

At my Avalon signing, I will be giving away 50 signed poster to anyone who wants one. See them below modeled by my 5-year old daughter.

I’ll also have the usual bookmarks and other swag. I’m so looking forward to meeting everyone. I’ll be checking my twitter feed as much as possible, so if anybody wants to meet up to chat or hang up send me a message

See you Sunday!

*I’m not 100% certain that it is in fact Dilemma arcs, but to the best of my knowledge it is. Either way, Tor Books rocks and they should be at the top of your visit list

You can also enter to win a copy of The Nightmare Affair and a bunch of other awesome books over at the 2014 Debut Authors group, OneFourKidLit.

In other news, the cover reveal for Avalon is coming very soon, sometime after June 5th. And speaking of cover reveals, I’ve created 2 annotated ARCs of The Nightmare Affair that I’ll be giving away as part of The Nightmare Dilemma cover reveal. I’m not sure when that one will be, but it should be very soon as well.
